VitalStim Dysphagia Therapy Program
AristaCare at Norwood Terrace is always looking for ways
to improve patient care and quality of life. It is with this philosophy
in mind that AristaCare at Norwood Terrace has started providing VitalStim services for
patients with oral-pharyngeal dysphagia. Since you probably encounter
this condition with some frequency, we thought you would like to know
more about VitalStim® Therapy, a completely new therapeutic intervention
that has been quite effective in many of our patients.
VitalStim is a special form of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES)
that helps re-educate the throat muscles needed for swallowing. Cleared
by the FDS in June of 2001, this non-invasive therapy has been used
successfully for the past two-and-a-half years, and has helped thousands
regain the pleasures of an oral diet and a more independent lifestyle.
